Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1965 through the merging of two previous United Nations agencies, the mission of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is to assist member states in the growth of human development and the alleviation of poverty. Headed by its administrator, the third-most important official of the UN, the UNDP has been pushing forward wide-ranging initiatives through its cooperation with local governments and international organizations.
Known as one of the most accomplished agencies in the United Nations, the UNDP has contributed to promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through its programs. These programs range from promoting democratic governance by supporting elections and voter registration to advising governments in reforming discriminatory legislation to providing HIV/AIDS testing to millions of people worldwide.
UNDP is an intermediate committee that offers an experience for all delegates with interest.

A junior at St. George’s School, Eric is ecstatic to serve as the Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) at CAIMUN 2021. Initially drawn to MUN by its dynamism and energy—and eternally grateful today for the experiences he’s had, the friendships he’s made, and the knowledge he’s gained within the realms of diplomacy and global affairs—he is embarking upon the third year of his profoundly fruitful involvement in MUN. Outside of the committee room, Eric can be found racing down the left flank of a soccer pitch, filling his Spotify sing-along playlist with old Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, and One Direction tunes, and crying (as a result of his unforgiving pollen allergies). Eric eagerly awaits the weekend of diplomacy that he hopes will end up as one of the most memorable of the school year for all participants!
David is a grade 11 student at St. George’s School and is delighted to be serving as the chair of UNDP. He is in his third year of a life-changing MUN journey, hoping CAIMUN 2021 will add to his list of unforgettable MUN experiences. In his high school career, politics has acted as a bridge between friends and academic experience, allowing him to spend time with those he cares about while quenching his thirst for debate and diplomacy. Outside of the committee room, David tends to enjoy hitting bombs on the links, going on sunset bike rides with the “boys”, and discussing the current global financial condition with his friends. David is looking forward to meeting all the delegates at CAIMUN 2021.
Currently in her sophomore year at Hugh McRoberts Secondary, Yirui is elated to serve as the Chair of the United Nations Development Programme at CAIMUN 2021. Ever since mustering up enough courage to deliver a 30-second speech in her first committee session, Yirui has been enthralled by the world of fast-paced debate and pressing international affairs. With memories formed, camaraderie exchanged, friendships forged and resolutions drafted after every conference, her love for Model UN has only grown. Outside of the committee room, Yirui enjoys spending time in nature, exploring various dessert shops, and browsing through Netflix. She looks forward to a weekend of passionate discourse and hopes that CAIMUN brings cherished memories and a pleasant experience for all.
