2020 SECRETARIAT

Othman Mekhloufi
Secretary-General

A junior at University Hill Secondary, Othman has the utmost honour to serve as the Secretary-General at CAIMUN 2020. First entering the enthralling world of Model UN with the excitement of being a one-time delegate, the activity has grown to be a significant portion of his life which he is vehemently passionate about. By far, from all his time spent in MUN, the friendships formed along the way are the greatest upside out of many. When his mind is not set on CAIMUN, Othman can be found sifting through press releases in an attempt to find the next story to write about, or ranting to his friends about politics they have no care for. Taking MUN deeply to heart, he hopes to ensure a phenomenal delegate experience at CAIMUN 2020. He has no doubt it will be the most remarkable iteration yet.

Geoffrey Xie
Director-General

Geoffrey is a senior student attending the International Baccalaureate Programme at Port Moody Secondary School. With a passion for public speaking, he began his Model United Nations journey in Grade 9 and was heavily involved by Grade 10. Since then, Geoffrey has delegated at various conferences and is captivated by the intense discussion. He especially enjoys the impactful community surrounding MUN, as it has allowed him to not only learn many valuable life skills but also create lasting friendships. When not holding a placard, Geoffrey can be seen participating in business case competitions, playing badminton, or contributing to local non-profit organizations. In his free time, he enjoys scrolling endlessly through his Facebook feed or even falling into an infinite Youtube spiral. Geoffrey is ecstatic to serve as the Director-General for CAIMUN 2020 and hopes to deliver the best iteration yet!

Cher Ning
Chief of Staff

A senior attending Crofton House School, Cher is truly honoured to be serving as the Chief of Staff at CAIMUN 2020. Ever since attending her first Model UN conference four short years ago, Cher became captivated by the weekends filled with passionate yet diplomatic debate and sleepless nights fueled by caffeine. From cramming trips to new restaurants around downtown Vancouver into limited mealtimes to waiting endlessly for the elevator to arrive, Cher will forever treasure the countless memories and friends she has gained throughout various conferences. Outside of Model UN, Cher can be found trying to find the motivation to edit yet another minimum-effort travel vlog, creating a new Spotify playlist for every possible mood, and spectating as Leo and Joyce bicker about ethical dilemmas. She hopes to create an unforgettable experience for all attendees and looks forward to an extraordinary weekend at CAIMUN 2020!

Jasmine Lin
USG Logistics

As she enters her final year at Crofton House School, Jasmine has the distinct pleasure of serving as the USG of Logistics at CAIMUN 2020. Since attending her first conference five years ago, Jasmine has grown to love the long weekends filled with sleepless nights and riveting debate. From entering the committee as a timid grade eight, to staffing a committee filled with over 100 attendees, to being able to work alongside a group of like-minded individuals, Jasmine’s Model UN journey was not short-lived. Aside from MUN, Jasmine can be found stressing about university applications, studying at the nearest bubble tea shop, or fueling her online shopping addiction with the seven dollars in her bank account. She hopes to make her final conference a memorable experience for all delegates and wishes them the best of luck at CAIMUN 2020.

Joyce Chen
USG of Committees, General Assemblies

Joyce is a junior at Little Flower Academy and is ecstatic to be serving as the USG of Committees, General Assemblies at CAIMUN 2020. It is with absolute conviction that she attributes her affinity for politics to Model UN; from her first conference onwards, she has been continually inspired to challenge her beliefs with perspectives that clash with her own, grow in awareness about tangible global issues, and form friendships that she will be eternally grateful for. When not editing background guides, Joyce can be found attempting to cook, delivering speeches in a debate round, and attempting (but failing) to unravel ethical dilemmas alongside Leo. Above all else, she looks forward to making CAIMUN 2020 the best iteration yet and cannot wait to see you there!

Leo Wang
USG of Committees, Specialized Assemblies

A sleepless senior hailing from University Hill Secondary School, Leo is thrilled to serve as your USG of Committees, Specialized Agencies at CAIMUN 2020. Ever since raising his placard for the very first time as a dewy-eyed freshman, Leo can confidently affirm that the past four unforgettable years have helped him find a familiar home in committee rooms infested with illegible dais notes and tear-stained resolution papers. Beyond his remarkable attachment to the fiery debates and cunning diplomacy of Model UN, Leo enjoys indulging his most limited free time in (re)watching The Office, following Toronto Raptors basketball, and attempting (but failing) to resolve ethical dilemmas alongside Joyce. Leo fervently hopes to create positive and long-lasting memories at CAIMUN 2020!

Serena Chen
USG Delegate Affairs

In her final year of high school at Crofton House School, Serena is overjoyed to be serving as one of your USGs of Delegate Affairs at CAIMUN 2020. Ever since she was coerced into joining her school's MUN program four short years ago, Serena has been doubtlessly captivated by the world of MUN. From eccentric debates and comprehensive resolutions to sleepless nights with friends fueled by instant noodles, her love for Model UN has grown significantly over the past years. Outside of MUN and academics, she spends her time either playing cello in an orchestra or building her already high caffeine tolerance by adding more and more shots of espresso into her americanos— she is more than ready to challenge her caffeine consumption capacity during the conference. Serena is looking forward to a wonderful weekend of debate and hopes that all attendees leave having cherished their time spent at CAIMUN 2020!

Cynthia Gan
USG Delegate Affairs

Currently a junior at Richmond Christian School, Cynthia is delighted to be serving as one of CAIMUN’s USGs of Delegate Affairs. Ever since her very first raised placard and nerve-wracking walk to the podium, Model UN has fostered in her life a passion for global affairs, diplomacy, and the opportunity to work with the most intelligent and motivated community of students in the Lower Mainland. When not sacrificing copious amounts of sleep over Model UN or academics, she enjoys debate, contemporary poetry, and volunteering; far more often, however, she can simply be found indulging her book-thrifting obsession and spending a questionable amount on food around Vancouver with friends. She looks forward to creating an unforgettable experience for every bright-eyed delegate at CAIMUN 2020 and wishes all attendees the very best!

Koby Chen
USG Conference

Embarking on his sophomore year at St. George’s school, Koby is beyond elated to be serving as the USG of Conference at CAIMUN 2020. Ever since his first 14-second speech, he has been drawn into the multifaceted and gratifying world of Model UN. To him, it is the crossroads between discussion and the formalities of diplomacy, as well as cultivating risible and relishable memories. Outside of Model UN, Koby can be found struggling to center clay at the potter’s wheel, studying in cafes that serve overpriced ‘cronuts’, and inadequately developing principle points in debate rounds. Above all, he is certain that CAIMUN 2020 will ignite a passion for global affairs in every delegate that walks through the Hyatt doors. Koby wishes everyone the very best and looks forward to seeing you all there!

Jessica Soule
USG Marketing

Currently a senior in the International Baccalaureate Programme at Glenlyon Norfolk School in Victoria, Jessica is thrilled to be serving as the USG of Marketing at CAIMUN 2020. After attending her first conference in the ninth grade, she was immediately fascinated by the opportunity to interact with like-minded youth and engage with consequential issues prominent in our world today. As a result, she has developed a deep passion for international relations and hopes to one day work in diplomacy. When she’s not stressing over Instagram insights, Jessica can be found working on her colour-coordinated chemistry notes, poring over yet another book on social media’s impact on elections, or listening to country music. She cannot wait to meet all delegates and ensure that they all have an unforgettable experience at CAIMUN 2020.

Noah Wong
USG Sponsorships

A junior in the International Baccalaureate programme at Meadowridge School, Noah is excited to be serving as the USG of Sponsorships at CAIMUN 2020. Since reluctantly speaking at his first conference in Grade 8, Noah has developed a passion for international relations and will forever be grateful for all the memories and friends he’s made through MUN. From the innumerable iced coffees needed to stay awake in midnight crisis to proposing the creation and implementation of “education and task forces” to solve any issue, Noah is excited to give back to the MUN community as a member of CAIMUN's Secretariat team. Outside of Model UN, Noah can be found playing with swords as a competitive fencer, spending hours on public transit trying to find new restaurants or bubble tea shops, and rewatching How I Met Your Mother. Noah hopes to create a memorable experience for all delegates at CAIMUN 2020 and looks forward to meeting everyone!

Tina Shi
USG Media, Design & IT

Entering her junior year at Crofton House School, Tina is ecstatic to serve as the USG of Media, Design, & IT at CAIMUN 2020. Despite her rough start as a delegate, she highly values her time spent defending her national sovereignty. However, she eventually found a home in the media team. Model UN has become a significant part of Tina's high school career and created a village of friends that she wouldn't trade for the world. She truly hopes that whether as delegate, staff, or media team, you are able to participate in MUN and create your own community. When not taking photos and editing into the early morning hours, she can be found obsessing over the latest shows, constantly on public transit, and believing that ignorance is bliss when asked about her future. Tina cannot wait to create an unforgettable conference and wishes all attendees the best at CAIMUN 2020.
