From attending his first conference in Grade 9, Shakil has been able to develop a passion for Model United Nations, and an interest in current and international affairs. Alongside Model UN, Shakil is an actor, skating instructor, as well as a speech and debate coach. Shakil enjoys binging Netflix and Youtube series, as well as practicing his tumbling and gymnastics skills wherever there is an open space. Shakil anticipates CAIMUN 2019 to be a weekend filled with international relations, fruitful debate, and an amazing experience for all.

Alvin Zou
Director-General & IT Director

Alvin Zou is currently a senior at Prince of Wales Secondary, and is thrilled to be serving as CAIMUN 2019’s Director-General. Upon entering the world of Model UN in grade 9, he was immediately captivated by the unique experience and the sophistication of debate. Since then, Alvin’s passion for Model UN has only grown stronger. This year, he’s delighted to work towards ensuring this year’s iteration lives up to CAIMUN’s reputation as an innovative, ambitious conference. When he’s not preoccupied with programming CAIMUN’s new automated registration system, Alvin can be found on the ultimate frisbee fields of his high school, the ski slopes of the North Shore, or in his living room catching up on episodes of Game of Thrones. After a truly unforgettable experience on last year’s Secretariat team, Alvin hopes that CAIMUN 2019 will be an even more exciting and memorable weekend for all of its attendees.

Sherry Sun
Chief of Staff

Sherry is a senior at Richmond Christian School and is absolutely honoured to serve as the Chief of Staff for CAIMUN 2019. Since raising her placard for the first time in Grade 9, Sherry has become enthralled by the captivating discussions and invaluable learning opportunities that this platform provides. From attending a plethora of conferences, she not only elevated her confidence in public speaking but also built numerous friendships along the way. Besides her investment in academic studies and MUN, Sherry enjoys reviewing films and replicating Gordon Ramsey’s recipes. As a member of the Secretariat, she hopes to ignite a lasting passion for global affairs in every bright-eyed delegate. With CAIMUN 2019 being the final destination of her high school Model UN journey, Sherry looks forward to cherishing the conference as a remarkable experience for all delegates, staff, and attendees.

Naomi Jung
USG Logistics

Naomi is a senior at Holy Cross Regional High School. Having co-founded her school’s club in Grade 10, she fell in love with Model UN at her first conference, CAIMUN 2016. She is honoured to be on the Secretariat team this year to help create an amazing experience for all delegates. Serving as USG of Logistics has her absolutely thrilled as she can combine her love of event planning, which she discovered as co-organizer of TEDxVancouverCollege, with her passion for MUN. Outside of MUN, Naomi is a competitive Irish dancer and loves to bake up something delicious. Feel free to email her with any questions about the conference and she looks forward to a great CAIMUN this upcoming May!

Albert Chen
USG Delegate Affairs

Albert is a junior attending Port Moody Secondary School in the International Baccalaureate Programme. Since being introduced to Model United Nations in grade 10, Albert was instantly captivated by the fiery debates, rigorous research, and realistic diplomacy. From overcoming his fear of public speaking and gaining critical thinking skills to building a global perspective of the world and fostering a passion for professionalism, Albert is honoured to serve as the Under-Secretary-General of Delegate Affairs for CAIMUN 2019. Outside his involvement in Model United Nations, Albert can be found running flights of stairs in Sauder Business School for business case competitions, exercising his passion for badminton, persevering in the infinite field of mathematics, volunteering in arrays of NGO’s, binging YouTube, or his favourite: taking 6-hour naps. Albert is confident that all delegates at CAIMUN 2019 will have a truly phenomenal and unforgettable weekend of debate!

Maxwell Botham
USG Delegate Affairs

Max Botham is currently a Grade 12 student at Prince of Wales Secondary School, and is ecstatic to be serving as CAIMUN’s USG of Delegate Affairs, alongside Albert Chen. He has attended many MUN conferences as a delegate–winning best delegate in his committee at CAIMUN 2018–and is excited to use his experience to enrich the delegate experience this year. Max strives for excellence, and is excited to make CAIMUN 2019 thrilling. When he’s not busy placing delegates in committees, he enjoys playing poker, playing guitar, singing, and hanging out with his friends. He also enjoys paddling and steering dragon boats, skiing down steep slopes, and binge watching How I Met your Mother for the 14th time. Max enjoys spending time in nature, and often embarks on week long canoeing and backpacking trips, whether it be in the snow or the sun. But most importantly, Max is honoured to be working as USG of Delegate Affairs for CAIMUN 2019, and can’t wait to meet all of its delegates.

Jeffrey Shen
USG Committees (General Assemblies)

Jeffrey is a senior attending Pinetree Secondary, and is ecstatic to be serving as the USG Committees at CAIMUN 2019. This is his fourth year of Model UN, as well as his fourth time attending CAIMUN! Model UN has been a great part of Jeffrey’s high school career, and has given him a chance to debate passionately, learn about global issues, meet incredible people, and stay up far too late on several occasions finishing backgrounders and position papers. Outside of school, Jeffrey can be found taking extremely long naps, attempting new recipes that are too difficult, and watching Friends for the fourth time on Netflix. Jeffrey cannot wait to meet everyone at the conference, and is sure that it will be nothing short of exceptional!

Inaya Ali
USG Committees (Specialized Agencies)

Inaya is currently a senior attending Port Moody Secondary School and is honoured to be serving as one of the Under-Secretary-General of Committees for CAIMUN 2019. Inaya’s first conference pulled her into the exhilarating world of debate and diplomacy and since then, she has avidly seized every opportunity to increase her involvement. Besides her keen interest in foreign affairs, Inaya finds thrill, enjoyment, and passion in debating and enjoys being an active member of the Model United Nations community. When she is not stressing over her next IB assignment or editing background guides, Inaya can be found spending time with her friends and family. Inaya has found so many valuable aspects through participating in Model United Nations and hopes to welcome all delegates into this wonderful community at CAIMUN 2019!

Ellen Li
USG Marketing

Currently a sophomore at Crofton House School, Ellen is eager and excited to serve as your USG of Marketing. She enjoys (if sleeping is not an option) discussing intricate laws and policies in the States, losing sleep over WUDC debates late at night, and becoming a diplomat in Downtown hotels. Ellen lives by the mindset that broadening your worldview to incorporate those outside the borders of your country remains the most important path one can take in order to lead responsible and informed lifestyles. When not in these overly professional settings, she can also be found obsessively scrolling through the subtle Asian traits Facebook group and reading... for fun?! Without Model United Nations, Ellen would never have developed the same knowledge and respect she has for politics and diplomacy. Model United Nations is paramount in your role as a global citizen – so take advantage of the incredibly unique and passionate experience CAIMUN offers. Without discourse, society remains stagnant. Apply for debate, apply for diplomacy, apply for CAIMUN.

Geoffrey Xie
USG Sponsorships

Geoffrey is a junior student attending the International Baccalaureate Programme at Port Moody Secondary School. With a passion for public speaking, he began his Model United Nations journey in Grade 9 and was heavily involved by Grade 10. Since then, Geoffrey has delegated at various conferences and is captivated by the intense discussion. He especially enjoys the impactful community surrounding MUN, as it has allowed him to not only learn many valuable life skills, but also create lasting friendships. When not holding a placard, Geoffrey can be seen participating in business case competitions, playing badminton, or contributing to local non-profit organizations. In his free time, he enjoys scrolling endlessly through his Facebook feed or even falling into an infinite Youtube spiral. Geoffrey is ecstatic to serve as the USG of Sponsorship for CAIMUN 2019 and hopes to deliver a once in a lifetime opportunity for all delegates.

Saira Suleman
USG Conference

Saira Suleman is a grade 12 student at Crofton House School and is honoured to be serving as the USG of Conference at CAIMUN 2019. After attending her first conference in grade 8, she was captivated by the stimulating debate and developed a deep passion for global affairs. Model UN has inspired her to be more active and outspoken about her opinions and has given her many opportunities to develop her public speaking, leadership and collaboration skills. Throughout the past five years, she has formed lifelong friendships and gained immense knowledge about complex global issues. Outside of the Model UN community, Saira enjoys travelling with her friends and family, volunteering, and going out to eat with her friends. Saira looks forward to making CAIMUN an outstanding conference filled with insightful and inspiring debate. She hopes that CAIMUN 2019 is a memorable experience for all!
