On New Years Eve 1926, Merope Gaunt stumbled into Wool’s orphanage on the brink of labour. Within several hours of her arrival, she was pronounced deceased following the birth of her child, the son of Tom Riddle Sr. and the last remaining heir of Slytherin, Tom Marvolo Riddle. 11 years later, a man by the name of Albus Dumbledore went to that same orphanage offering Tom Riddle an acceptance to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. What seemed like a simple offer turned out to be the first steps that would lead to the Great Wizarding War and the reign of You Know Who.
3 and a half decades later, dear delegates, is where our committee begins, at the beginning of the First Wizarding War and during the height of Voldemort's reign. Together, you will be representing key members of the magical community from leaders in the Ministry of Magic to highly valued members of the Order of the Phoenix. Against you, you will be facing the growing terror of Voldemort as he continues to gain even more control of the Wizarding world. Your goal is simple: destroy the Dark Lord before more innocent people get hurt. Be careful whom you trust in this time of great secrecy.
On the more technical side, this committee, while enacting a historical wizarding war, will be shaped by you. There is no need to stay true to canonical events so long as your actions fall within the realm of possibility for your given delegation. Magical elements, of course, will be rampant in this committee and a full guide to the various elements of magic that will occur at the conference can be seen in the Background Guide. In addition, the committee matrix will list the Phoenix's positions in order of skill level from hardest to easiest delegation to represent and the Dais will be taking part in the assignment decisions. Ultimately, the Dais welcomes both new delegates and veterans to the Order of the Phoenix and wishes everyone the best of luck!
The Order of the Phoenix (Phoenix) is an advanced crisis committee that offers an extraordinary experience designed for wizards with extensive experience. Delegates wishing to participate in this committee will be carefully chosen for their Harry Potter and debate knowledge.

It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends. ~ Albus Dumbledore
Adam Mawji is ecstatic to bring the innovative Harry Potter Committee, Order of the Phoenix, to CAIMUN 2019. From gaveling and directing at every major conference, this committee will mark the end of Adam’s MUN-derful journey.
Drowning in university and scholarship applications in what would be known as “free-time” Adam still finds moments to shoot photos to fuel his stellar instagram: @adammawji. Overall, Adam extends the warmest welcome to all prospective delegates and wishes to leave them with one last personal statement: This is it. The Final Chapter. The one that brings tears to his eyes. Is this a reference to his last MUN conference or his first reading of the Deathly Hallows? Yes.

Currently in her second year of Model UN, Vivian Gu is beyond thrilled to be part of the Order of the Phoenix at CAIMUN 2019! This committee will be an opportunity to take a step back from formal policy without sacrificing the energy of crisis, and step into the world of a childhood favourite - Harry Potter. When not re-reading the series any chance she gets, Vivian usually likes to spend her time traveling across the globe, exploring the city, binging her newest find on Netflix, or prepping for the next debate tournament.
For all of the forthcoming delegates, welcome to the one committee where you are to lower your placards, and raise your wands!
It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be. ~ Albus Dumbledore
Naomi is a first year student majoring Political Science and History at McGill University. As she was greatly involved with Model United Nations in Vancouver in the past two years, she cannot wait to return to CAIMUN and serve on the dais of the Harry Potter Committee. Having been an ardent crisis delegate throughout high school, Naomi is especially excited to see delegates relive and reshape the Wizarding World. In her spare time, she likes to jump down rabbit holes on Wikipedia and write for publications she's involved with on campus. Naomi hopes that CAIMUN 2019 will be a blast, and cannot wait to meet all the delegates!
